Wardrobe Staples for Holiday Parties: 2

December 22nd, 2009

lbd 1One great standard piece to incorporate into your holiday wardrobe is the classic little black dress. Here’s the kicker though: for the holiday season, you need more than one. In fact, you should really have at least three. Why the excess? Versatility, of course.

You see, ideally, you should have a short, flirty little LBD for fun partying. You need a longer one as well, one that grazes the ankles, for more formal occasions. Thirdly, you need one that reaches just above or right below the knee, for more in between occasions.

The same goes for black skirts. You should have three in varying sizes, for different holiday occasions. Why? Because they can be paired with a variety of tops, from dressy to casual. The added bonus here is that this versatility will allow you to go from day to evening with a minimum of muss and fuss.

hot-plus-size-girls

In this blog, we have come up with a lot of tips and tricks for plus-size women to style themselves.  If you are a full-figured woman and you are looking to make a fashion statement, I have a few things that you should stay away from.  One thing is skintight clothing, as that is something that can make your imperfections in plain sight.

Next, make sure that you steer clear of really loose clothing, as that is not something that you want to expose yourself to.  This will make you look even bigger than you are.  You want to make sure that you get rid of your front-pleated trousers or any pleated skirts, as that is not something that looks good most of the time.

Contrasting bold colors is also a big no-no in the way of fashion.  Also pockets and ruffles – just keep it simple and I can promise you will look awesome!

When you are short and stocky, I can promise that you have a lot of problems usually trying on clothes.  Everything is either too tight, too big or makes you look too big – and that is not what you want.  Well, I am here to give you some tips and tricks that can really help you in the long run with your clothing choices when you are plus-size.

One of the first things that you want to make sure that you do whenever you are picking out clothes is that you want to find clothing that actually fits you well – that is the biggest thing that bigger women have problems with.  Choosing clothing that fits you well is very important to make yourself look smaller.

While you might think that bigger and bulkier clothing is the best option, you want to make your shoulders look narrow and that is where closely fitting clothes come into play.

Takin’ It to the Country for Winter: 3

tunicTunics with a blouse like flounce are popular for this style as well. The key with this trend is to keep with the appropriate colors, which are by and large neutral shades like dark browns and beiges, off whites and creams, and darker hues like burgundy.

A tunic with puffed sleeves or ruffles on the hem allows for that English feel. This style goes well with jeans as well, along with vintage necklaces. Larger tunics can be reigned in with a skinny belt.

Boots are a staple for this trend too, but in browns and tans. Riding boots are great, Doc Martens are awesome, and you can go casual with slouchy boots.

Just make sure your boots will complement the length of your legs, as well as the overall shape of them.

ripped jeansNow, as briefly mentioned, checks are a vital part of the Country Folk trend. Specifically, checkered shirts are all the rage. It can be a dress shirt, a tunic, even a mini dress. Some people even take it a step further and try romper suits. Purple makes a great color here, as does blue, brown, and orange.

The best way to wear the checkered shirt is with a pair of jeans, and what kind of jeans are popular in the Country Folk trend? Ripped jeans! They definitely are not just for summer any longer. You can go for distressed jeans or straight up ripped jeans.

There are several ways to wear these. Avoid too much layering, because that is more fitting for the rocker look. That being said, you can go casual with your checkered shirt or go for a classy casual look by pairing your ripped jeans with something fancier.

checked shirtSo, fellow fashionistas, guess what? Apparently I’ve been quite trendy without even knowing it. Country Folk is one of the hot trends for the winter season, and you’d be surprised at how easy it is to do.

The color palette for this trend encompasses a rather eclectic mix of greys and browns, beige and off white shades, and hues of orange and olive green.

The finer details included checked, gingham, and plaid prints, boots that could walk a mile in a barnyard, lots of lace, loose and flowing blouses, tailored slacks with a bit of a masculine edge, and medallion pendants in Old English styles.

During the coming posts, we will check out some of the specific pieces and how you can wear them to best incorporate Country Folk into your wardrobe.
