Violet, Plum, and Lilac, Oh My!

All shades of purple were predominant on the runway last fall, and will likely factor into the fashions seen for Fall 2009, as well. This summer, however, the catwalk is showing us purple in some very bold, very unlikely places.

Where will you be seeing — and where should you be wearing — colors like violet, plum, aubergine, lilac, and lavender? On the mouth, of course! All this season, luscious lips in fashion conscious capitals the world over will be dressed in these shades, looking lovely and somehow exotic.

Now, many of us absolutely do not want to wear dark, dramatic purple lipstick on a day to day basis, but do not worry, that is not necessary. On the contrary, there are lots of tricks you can implement that will make your purple mouth perfectly acceptable for day to day, casual wear.

You can go with some of the lighter glosses, of course — how about a lip plumper gloss in plum? Darlings, I love mine. You can either blot on darker shades through fine tissue, or smudge it lightly on top of a thoroughly pancaked, powdered, or covered up lip.

This week in hair trends, Catwalk Report is proud — and relieved — to bring you the latest in updos on the runway. Why are we relieved? Because it is hot out there, that’s why! Who wouldn’t think it is a relief to know we can wear our hair up, thereby looking stylish but feeling comfortable?

Simple and elegant is the new word in hair trends on the catwalk. This one, as you can see, is perfection itself, but messier, more natural updos are all the rage as well. Let tendrils escape and do not be afraid to use lots of bobby pins if you need to use them.

Another great thing about this hairdo trend is its versatility. You can put your hair up when you want to look casual and you can pair the ‘do with a little black dress for a classy evening out.

Tomboy Fabulous: Boyfriend Jeanshorts

So, we have all heard of boyfriend jeans, right? Well of course, unless you have been living under a rock in a cave at the farthest reaches of the earth for the past free years, everyone knows how hot boyfriend jeans have been and continue to be. Boyfriend shirts, boyfriend cords, boyfriend undies — girls have been stealing their boyfriends’ and husbands’ clothing for years, and designers have really been capitalizing on that fact. Guys out there, you have the most comfortable clothing in life — and you have to admit, there is not a girl out there who does not look cute in a pair of jeans that are too big for her, or a shirt that hangs comfortably around her body.

Well, in the spirit of that still thriving trend, Les Halles, among others, is giving you the next best thing with their sinfully comfortable boyfriend shorts. American Eagle has taken a turn at this new trend as well, and plenty of other designers have hopped on the tomboy train for a fantastic androgynous style.

Future Love, Spaced Out Style

Dresses, dresses, dresses — I told you they were popular this summer! In fact, it seems like the shorter the dress, the hotter the trend. Of course, in this case, the dress is secondary. Women this summer are going to shimmer and shine, thanks to a prevailing futuristic trend. Style at large is getting all spaced out, and the resulting outfits are designs that can likely be seen in other galaxies.

Take, for instance, this glimmering tube dress. Officially, it is American Apparel’s Shiny Too Short Tube Dress. It is available online for — you won’t believe this — a mere thirty eight dollars! You can also check out your local American Apparel store.

This is not the only label going for the futuristic look, though. Gareth Pugh has a great cotton jacket full of sharp angles, while Daang Goodman, designing for Tripp NYC, has designed a fabulous pair of silver vinyl jeans which go for only sixty five dollars.

Minidresses, Major Style

Throughout the next two or three posts, we are going to be looking specifically at some of the hottest trends for the summer. After all, the season is well nigh upon us, so what better time than now to start filling up our wardrobes with the trendiest, edgiest fashions?

One of the biggest emerging trends this season is the minidress. Dresses in general are coming back with a vengeance, but the minidress in particular is a fun, flirty trend. It is the absolute essence of femininity, and it is specifically designed to make a woman feel absolutely gorgeous.

This particular is example is from Maje. Style.com considers it the height of Uptown Girl fashion, and dubs it extraordinarily ladylike.

They’ve got that right! Maje knew what they were doing when they designed the Geneve Strapless Minidress, which is available online for $345.00. The fun, floral print is sure to be a knockout during an evening out or walking down the beach.

Ruffles: Another Fashion Trend This Spring!

Ruffles! This season is honestly all about the ruffles and bows. Whether you are looking at a spring dress or you are looking at a blouse, whenever you think spring, it should be all ruffles this season! Take these three incredible looks, they all look amazing on the model and to be honest I happen to love ruffles!

This season ladies, it is time for you to pull out all of those older pieces that are covered in ruffles and deck yourself out. You will be at the height of fashion and I can definitely promise that no one in the world will laugh at you – honestly!

Just remember, while ruffles may look innocent and such, they can definitely be sexy and chic as well, so keep that in mind whenever you are shopping this season!

A great colorful show from NYC by Chinese label OmniaLuo. I’m very very very impressed with their use of superdelicate materials. Overall a great collection, very much worth a special spot on Catwalk Report right before Christmas!

Temperley London Fashion Summer 2008

An excellent catwalk show and thanks to Temperley London’s excellent PR work an excellent video with 10 minutes of Temperley London-madness free for everyone to judge.

An excerpt from their release:

Bold prints on velvety crepe de chine and softly draped silk jersey dresses with plaiting and gathering details are perfect transition pieces. Printed striped cotton is combined with cotton lace while fine soft leathers with pin tuck details and slouchy trousers add an edge to the collection. Chiffon is used to create ornate dresses, some covered in hundreds of tiny silk feathery layers and others using delicate chiffon braids and weaves.

Beautiful as always and super-super wearable. A++!
